  Spain has contributed to a new rhythm of economic policy for the EU
June 30, 2010 .- The rotating presidency of Spain has managed, along with other European institutions, to print the "new economic and political pace that EU citizens wanted for a XXIst century Europe ", said on Wednesday the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs Miguel Angel Moratinos.

Brussels, 10 May .- After a meeting in Brussels lasting more than eleven hours, which finished in the early hours of Monday morning, the Economy and Finance Council (Ecofin) reached an agreement on a loan package of more than 500 billion euros allocated to cover the needs of members with solvency problems and to defend the euro.
 
  Zapatero faces with enthusiasm the challenge of leading the EU out of the crisis
Madrid, Jan 1 (EFE) .- The Head of Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, said that Spain is facing its presidency of the EU with its “ best enthusiasm “ to pull Europe out of economic crisis and make that citizens get closer identification with the European project.

Brussels (29 october 2009).- The President of the Spanish government, Rodríguez Zapatero, along with the Belgian Prime Minister, Van Rompuy, and the Hungarian Prime Minister, Bajnai, has presented the common logo which will identify the European Council presidency trio, Spain-Belgium-Hungary.

  The President of the Government comments on the Election of the New EU Leaders
Brussels 19 November 2009.-The President of the Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, has informed, at the end of the Extraordinary Council Meeting in Brussels, of the appointment of Herman Van Rompuy, the current Belgian prime minister, as the permanent President of the European Union, and the Briton Catherine Ashton, current EU Commissioner for Trade, as the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Vice-President of the Commission.

 
  The European Council Reaches a Consensus to ensure the Ratification of the Lisbon Treaty
Brussels 30 October 2009.- At the end of the European Council meeting held in Brussels, the President of the Government highlighted the twenty-seven Members have adopted a formula of consensus that will enable the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty in a short period of time. He also highlighted the EU has established a common strategy on climate change with an eye to the Copenhagen Summit.
 
  The EU 27 will meet on common position at G-20
Brussels 17 September 2009.- The President of the Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, took part in the extraordinary meeting of the European Council of EU Heads of State and Government held in Brussels, where they have adopted a common strategy for the next G-20 summit, which will be held in Pittsburgh, USA, next 24 and 25 September.

Madrid (24 juin 2009).- The agreement subscribed to encourage the ratification of the Treaty of Lisbon, the compromise to adjust the number of Euro deputies as much as possible once the Treaty is enforced, the support to Durao Barroso as president of the European Commission and the reaction of the Twenty Seven to the international financial situation have been some of the issues the last European Council dealt with according to the President of the Government.
 
  Rodríguez Zapatero announced that the Spanish EU Presidency is going to be a "transforming, demanding period characterised by engagement"
Madrid (12 Feb 2009). The President of the Government announced at the Association of European Journalists that the three priorities of the Spanish EU Presidency during the first six months of 2010 are going to be the promotion of a new economic model, the reaffirmation and strengthening of a social, supportive European Union, and the adaptation of Europe to a multipolar world in which it may speak "with one single voice."
 
  "In Spain's interest: A Committed Foreign Policy" by the Prime Minister of Spain
On 16 June, and under the title ‘In Spain’s Interest: A Committed Foreign Policy’, the Spanish Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, presented the guidelines of his government’s foreign policy in a talk at the Prado Museum, organised by the Elcano Royal Institute with the cooperation of CIDOB, FRIDE, ICEI and INCIPE.

  Meeting of friends of the Constitutional Treaty “For a better Europe”

Next 26 January 2007, at the initiative of Spain and Luxembourg, a meeting will be held in Madrid of the 18 countries that have ratified the European Constitution, under the title “Friends of the Constitutional Treaty: For a Better Europe”.


 
  The Spanish Presidency tried to generate “confidence and unity” in the EU and made “substantial progress” in the economic union
Strasbourg, 6th July 2010.- The President of the Spanish Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, highlighted that the Spanish Presidency has tried to generate “confidence and unity” in the EU, as well as making “substantial progress” in the economic union, during his review of the first six months of the year at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
